Radiant by Christina Daley

Radiant
Radiant by Christina Daley
Mary is part Vietnamese. Carter is a complete jerk. Normally, they don't talk much.
But when Mary's in an accident on the way to school one morning, Carter nearly dies saving her life. The doctors say his chances of living are slim, and Mary's feeling the full weight of survivor's guilt.
However, Carter's back at school in a matter of days, as if nothing had happened. Although, he is a little "glitchy," and he's developed a sudden and intense interest in Mary. She thinks he's suffering from major brain trauma from the accident. Or that he's been possessed.
As it so happens, Carter really is possessed. And the thing controlling him is having the time of its life learning to be human.
Featuring a diverse cast of characters, RADIANT is a funny "paranormal-lite" story about being human, being in love, and being healed.

interview with Blkosiner's Book Blog
--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.

Mary and Carter are in a freak accident. Mary lives. Carter's possessed. Things get weird.

--How did you get the idea for the story?

A few years ago, I read a bunch of science and health articles that weren't really related. I can't remember where the possession idea came from, but I wondered what would happen if a person nearly died but then was possessed by something that was neither a ghost nor an alien. A bunch of paranormal romances were also hitting the shelves at the time. I don't normally write romances, so I decided to give one a try with this concept, and that's how the book came about.

--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?

In Radiant, I would love to have dinner with Ba's friends. Ba is Mary's grandmother, and she lives in a retirement home with a couple of characters. One is an elderly man named George, who's a bit cantankerous but has some colorful stories from his past. I love listening to people's stories, especially if they were born decades ago and saw how things have changed.

--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?

I always have WIPs going, lol. No release dates yet, but I've got two historical fiction YAs on my plate that I'm keeping under wraps for now. I've also got a third WIP that I really need to make more progress on. It's the third book in my middle grade fantasy series. The first two books are Seranfyll and Eligere, and just the others day, another one of my awesome readers kindly reminded me of how patiently she's waiting for Book 3 :)

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?

I'm fond of having some tea or lemonade within view when I write, mostly because I can write without moving for hours. If I have something to drink that I can see, it reminds me to get up and move more frequently.

I don't listen to much music when I write, but I like finding songs that work with the themes I'm writing. If I had to pick a theme song for Radiant, it'd be "Feel Again" by OneRepublic.

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?

"Dress better and at least attempt to do your hair!"

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?

I love chatting with readers! Seriously, I love talking about anything, like what I'm having for lunch or whatever. Shoot me an email at christinadaleybooks [at] gmail [dot] com or tweet me @cdaleywrite. I don't always follow back, but if you @ me, 99.9 percent of the time I'll respond :)
